It is with deep sorrow that we announce Mike’s unexpected but peaceful passing, in Ottawa.  Loving father of Kira, Kalen and Poppy McGrath. Husband of Karla Palmer, cherished son of Sean and Heather (nee Lewis) McGrath, brother of Chris and Rob McGrath.  Son-in-law of Richard and Louise Palmer, brother-in law to Jason Palmer and Sandra Law. Loving uncle to Henry Palmer. Fondly remembered by many friends, including the online Muff Wiggler modular synthesizer community. Friends and family are invited to pay respects at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Ave. Ottawa on Friday April 26 after 1 p.m. Service will be held in the Sacred Space at 2 p.m. Donations can be made in Mike’s name to Serenity Renewal for Families www.serenityrenewal.ca

My main interactions with Mike were during the transition period of taking over the Wiard synthesizer brand and manufacturing from Grant Richter, who had previously been struggling with health problems that had stopped him from building modules for a couple of years at that point, and Mike had a nearly finished 300 Series system at the time, but with very little hope of completing it, since Grant’s condition was permanent.

It gave me immense satisfaction and joy to build the remaining modules to complete his system, and I became aware in the few interactions I had with him over that time period what an amazing person he was. He obviously loved people, and had a boundless well of enthusiasm for life, music, art, and beauty.

He generously offered a sub forum on Muffwiggler.com to help promote Wiard under my new ownership, and wished me lots of luck, as well as publicly spreading the word about how much he loved his Wiard modular.

He will not be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Mike.
