The family of Renate Horne, with great sadness and regret, announce her passing on Sunday June 19th, 2022, at Willowbend Retirement Home in Orleans (Ottawa) ON in her 78th year after a long and courageous battle with multiple cancers, post Covid and heart issues. Renate was born in Stadtoldendorf Germany on April 13, 1944 and immigrated to Corner Brook Newfoundland with her family in 1951. She is pre-deceased by her mother Edith Sexton in 2004, Stepfathers: Harry Staeben (1954) and Chesley Sexton (1996) and by her brother Klaus Staeben in 2007.
She leaves behind in mourning her husband Wayne (Orleans, ON originally from Halifax, NS); her children: Michelle Godin (Derrick) Orleans, ON and Christopher Horne (Jennifer) Uxbridge, ON. Her sister: Erika Keddy (George) Dartmouth, NS; brother Bernd Staeben (Rochelle) Corner Brook NL; Sister-in-law Rosemary Staeben of Baie d’Espoir NL; Sister-in-law Judy Hartling (Orion), brother-in- law Jack Horne (Marylou), many nieces and nephews and four treasured grandchildren: Matthew and Sarah Godin & Madelynn and Ryan Horne.
Renate married Wayne on August 8th, 1964, in Corner Brook, NL and partnered with him as he travelled Canada on his RCMP career which spanned postings in Port aux Basques and St. Lawrence, NL; Regina, SK; and then finally settling in Ottawa ON, where she became a Canadian citizen in 1982 and began a retail career at Sears Canada Inc. progressing from part time associate to management working at St. Laurent and Rideau Centre until she retired in the fall of 2005.
Of all the titles she held professionally, the personal title of Nana was the one she held most dear. She adored, spoiled, and poured all the time and energy she could into all four of her beloved grandchildren who were the light of her life.
At Renate’s request, there will be no funeral or service after cremation. She will be laid to rest in the RCMP section of Beechwood Cemetery.
Special thanks to Genevieve Lalumiere RN of the Orléans Palliative team and Dr. Kevin Brophy who is the most amazing, dedicated family physician any family could hope for. Thanks also to the wonderful staff of Willowbend who cared so well for her in the 10 months she was there.
Mom/Nana leaves behind broken hearts and a beautiful legacy of wonderful holidays, Sunday dinners, weekends by the pool and instilling the love of reading into us all. We will never forget all the love and memories she worked so hard to provide us with– we love you and are grateful you are no longer in pain and that your long hard battle is over, until we see you again.

Hi Wayne. Tracy Langille informed me of Renata's passing. I think back to all the great times we had with the Nfld. crowd over the years. Xmas was especially fun when we always went to your home for desert...mince meat pie. Renata would always open the chocolates her father sent her from Germany. I remember the scoffs, rum and music. Those were great times. I offer you my sincere condolences.

My love and condolence to all the family on the passing of Aunt Renate. Several thoughts come to mind when I think of Aunt Renate but the most treasured memory is being her Flowergirl on the day of her wedding. I will miss my sweet and beautiful Aunt Renate so very much.
Love and God Bless you all.
