Premlata Srivastava (nee Bakshi) passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 7, 2021 after suffering a stroke two weeks prior. She is survived by her husband, Harishankar Srivastava, her son, Sanjay, her grandchildren, Anand, Kim and Shivani, and her great- grandchildren, Noah and Connor.
She was born in a family of five children in the city of Arrah (Bihar), India to parents Sushila Devi and B.A.P. Sinha. She is survived by a younger sister in California and predeceased by three brothers. She has many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews living in India, Canada, the USA and the UK.
She loved her family dearly and was always helping to bring the community around her together. She was an educator all her life, having been a principal of a school in India. She received a Master's Degree in Education from Kent State University in Ohio. She was one of the founders of, and a longtime teacher at, Mukul Hindi School in Ottawa.
Throughout her life, she did an amazing amount of community work within the city including with the Hindu Temple of Ottawa-Carleton. Additionally, she loved spending time with family and friends, hosting many parties, including her famous annual New Year's Eve parties.
Her family would like to thank the Champlain LHIN and ParaMed for providing dedicated home care for many years, and to Dr. Anil Jain for providing exceptional care to her as her family physician.
Due to Covid-19, the cremation will take place at Beechwood Cemetery for immediate family only. In her memory, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hindu Temple of Ottawa-Carleton or to the charity of your choice. A celebration of her life will be planned at a later time.
