RCNDaniel Kim, died at the age of 44 on the 21st of October, 2020. He will always be lovingly remembered by his wife, In-Sun, Mother, Yang-Ja, Father Jun-Ki, brothers Henry (Jongsun) and Edward, cousins, niece and nephews, friends and colleagues.

Daniel was born on September 15, 1976 in Edmonton, Alberta. He was known to his family and friends to be generous, courageous and loyal. He used these traits serving the Armed Forces, first as a reserve infantryman in the Loyal Edmonton Regiment, 4th Battalion PPCLI in 1994 and then joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a Naval Combat Systems Engineering Officer in 2004.


Lieutenant-Commander Daniel Kim’s deployments include Operation Altair with HMCS Calgary in 2008, a tour in Afghanistan in 2009-2010, sailing in HMCS Ottawa and another deployment with HMCS Calgary in 2015. He was a highly decorated officer. His awards include the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and a Command Commendation for his efforts as HMCS Calgary’s Boarding Party Officer, among others.

I will miss you Danny. I am so sad and sorry that I didn’t get a chance to say goodbye. Although I knew you since I was very young, I never got to have a deep conversation with you or spend a lot of time with you. I will always remember you as tough guy with a kind and caring heart. Danny was a great guy, I knew him in JR High and then high school. We spoke periodically and I just sent him a msg last week as I was thinking about him. I am saddened and he will be missed. Please accept my condolences to Danny's family... May he rest in peace.

RIP Danny. I am at a loss of words and will miss you man. We laughed We cried We fought We went through elementary to university together and considered you one of my best friends depsite the bruises. I am sorry for the shit I caused but you ended up being the better man. Thank you for your service to this country. Thank you for being my friend. Thank you for having a wonderful life. I was so proud of you from afar kicking in the ass in the military and engineering.
