Freda Camilla Smith was born in Hove, England, U.K. in 1925. She was the only child of Dr. Frederick and Marjorie Smith. During the Blitz of London she was sent to live with relations in North Yorkshire and developed her life long love affair with horses and animals of all kind. She attended Malvern College in Worcestershire and went on to train as a physiotherapist at Guy’s Hospital in London. After the war she worked as a physiotherapist in London, Montreal (Hotel Dieu), Vancouver (Vancouver General) as well as at practices in New Zealand and Australia before finally settling in Vancouver where she met and married Graham Nightingale in 1957. She gave birth to Trevor Nightingale in 1964. She was a resident of Vancouver, Tsawwassen, and kept a well-loved beach cottage at Point Roberts, WA for many decades. After Graham passed away in 2008 she moved to Ottawa to be near her son Trevor, daughter-in-law Juliana, and granddaughters Amanda and Christina. She lived on Rideau Terrace, enjoyed cottage living at Lac McGregor, and was a resident at the Chartwell New Edinburgh Square and Cite Parkway. She passed away peacefully on October 16, 2020 with family present.
