Put the kettle on, we have sad news. Mabel Bett passed away May 29, 2020, a week shy of her 90th birthday. Originally, and proudly, from Dundee, Scotland, she emigrated to Montreal in 1953 where she married Malcolm. This was just the first of many world-wide adventures she and Mac had throughout their 67 years together.

Mabel made life-long friends while working in the Principal’s office at McGill University in the 1950s & 60s, mentoring many young secretaries and charming everyone from students to world leaders. While raising their two daughters (Kirstin and Erika) in Ottawa, she volunteered in their schools which led to full time work in libraries services at several area elementary schools. Along the way she became an honorary aunt/ second mother to all their friends and a real Auntie Mabel to countless nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and Scotland. She embraced her sons-in-law (Colin and David) and adored her four granddaughters – Sabrina, Zoë, Megan and Jill. She relished hearing of all the latest accomplishments and shared her pride in them with all.

Cakes were her specialty and she always had one ready to serve with tea when friends and relatives dropped by. Have a cup of tea and remember the fabulous friend that Mabel was. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, when we can all assemble again.
