Ardell Bly Pehrsson       G. Marilyn Pehrsson

        1936-2020                       1935-2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ardell (Dell) Pehrsson and Marilyn Pehrsson (nee Brazell) on March 28 and 30, 2020 in Ottawa.

Marilyn and Dell, devoted to each other, were beloved parents to Sally (Robert) and Pauline (Allan); proud Nana and Papa to Brendan, Devin and Gavin; and cherished sister and brother-in-law to Barbara Phillips of Bury St. Edmunds, England. Also, a loving aunt and uncle to Isabel, Peter (Clare), Clare, Owen, Derek and Lorna (Stephen) of England and Wales, and sister- and brother-in-law to Cheryl Brazell

Dell was born on September 8, 1936 in Turtleford, Saskatchewan and was predeceased by his parents, Gerald Pehrsson and Florence Mosbeck,.  and his brother Lewell. He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force, before joining the Federal Government in the Patent Office.

Marilyn was born December 10, 1935 in Llanelli, Wales and was predeceased by her mother Jenny, father Maldwyn, and brother Hugh.  Marilyn worked much of her career in administration at the National Research Council and was also a proud employee of the Canadian Space Agency for many years.

Marilyn and Dell were married in Ottawa in 1963 and enjoyed many wonderful years together. They were blessed with a large group of close friends, and enthusiastically pursued activities including tennis, golf and travelling. Dell enjoyed woodworking and he also made and flew radio-controlled model aircraft that thrilled his grandsons. Marilyn loved outings with friends and family, walks by the river and cross-stitch.

Special thanks to the staff of the Montfort Hospital’s Sixth floor and Intensive Care Unit for their care and help at this incredibly difficult time.  Cremation and a private interment will take place at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa.  A joint Celebration of Life will be held at Beechwood at a later date, with details to be forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Care Canada or to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I would like to send my sincere condolences to the family of Ardell Bly and Marilyn. I do not know this family, nor do they know me, but my heart hurts for them nonetheless. To lose both parents within a couple of days of each other must bring insurmountable grief. I hope that the many kind thoughts, words, and prayers of the people who care, bring you all some small comfort during this very painful time. God bless!

My deepest sympathies to Sally, Pauline, their families, and the many friends who are now in mourning.  What a heartbreaking loss!

While it's been years since I've spoken with the Pehrssons, they've been close friends of my parents' since the late 60s when both families moved to the same street in Beacon Hill.  I'll remember them for their kindness, warmth and humour.

My fondest memories of the Pehrsson's revolve around their regular visits to our family cottage.  These gatherings must often have coincided with the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, as my memories include the television on in the background so that Del and Marilyn could track the progress of their favourite players,  One of the highlights of a Pehrsson visit was Marilyn's famous Expo dessert, a sinfully delicious dish which included graham crackers, pudding, custard and was topped with white and chocolate icing.

At this painful time, I hope that we can all find comfort in the fond memories we hold of these two wonderful people.

Dear Sally and Polly - so terribly sorry to see in the Citizen this morning that Dell and Marilyn had died. We hadn't been in touch lately but I will always remember them with great affection. To have both parents go together must be doubly hard for you both, but they were such a lovely couple it's perhaps a comfort to know they were together to the end.
My love and condolences to you and your families.

We are saddened by the deaths of Marilyn and Del, dear friends of ours for over 50 years, and offer our sincere condolences to their family. Memories of happy times spent traveling together include a visit through England and Wales (planned by Del) sailing on the four masted Star Clipper in the Caribbean ( Marilyn’s idea) touring the Hawaïen Islands, and many trips throughout the Ottawa Valley.
May they Rest In Peace.
