It is with great sadness we, the family of David Roy McLean, announce his passing on May 12th 2022 in Ottawa, Ontario.

David is sadly missed by his loving wife Loretta of 58 years and his three children; Michael (Debbie) McLean, Angela (Ryan) Wakelin and Erica (George Guillemette) McLean.

He is fondly remembered by his grand children; Samantha, Joey, Karl, Jessika, Hunter, Taylor, Halley, Olivier and Jacob; great grandson Nicolas; sister-in-law Clarissa (Bill) Rustad, and nephews Mark (Diane) Key and Stephen (Belinda) Laird.

He is predeceased by his father David J. McLean and mother Sheila Laird; sister Ann Key and brother-in-law Gordon Key.

David was born in Hamilton and raised in Burlington, Ontario.  In his youth he was active in sports, excelling in basketball and baseball. He tended bar locally and in the States and worked at the Ford Motor Company in Oakville.

He enlisted in the RCAF in 1961 and proudly gave 34 years of service to his country. His time in the military enabled him to travel extensively and show his family much of the world. David was an avid curler and after retirement enjoyed many rounds of golf with his buddies, read many novels and watched any western movies being shown. He was front and center in his children’s and grandchildren’s experiences and Dampa had an undeniable soft spot for his great grandson.

 Thank you for loving us.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, ON) on Wednesday, June 1st from 9 to 11 am followed by the interment.

Dave was not only my beloved Uncle but a friend who I could trust and admire. He meant so much to me giving me valued advice and guidance throughout my military career. I will never forget and cherish the time we spent together. His humor and selfless spirit will be very much missed. Giving my deepest condolences and heart felt prayers to Aunt Lori and family.

Dave was one of the best soldiers I ever had the pleasure to work with. His professional attitude and natural leadership abilities helped form the group into a real team. I will forever remember the Regina detachment where Dave introduced me to my future wife. Dave set the example for other servicemen. Oski-wi-wi Go Ti-Cats Dave.

Dave's picture is exactly the look I got when I missed a curling shot but when he smiled it made us all feel happy. I'm so sorry for your loss Lorrie but I know he will live on in your thoughts.
