Phil passed away in the early morning of January 10, 2025 at the age of 97.  Devoted husband to the late (Eva) Joan David (nee Harris) who predeceased him almost 10 years to the day, much-loved father to John David (Kathy), Kathy Weatherdon (Claude), Vicki Rendall (Larry), the late Chris Forget (Jack) and Sue George (Brian).  He was also the beloved Poppa to Ali McGruther (Justin), Pam David (Phil), Krista Williams (Tim), Nick Weatherdon (Paula), Jason Forget (Natasha), Jesse Forget, David George, Jacob George, and Matthew George; and finally, ‘Oh Great One’ to his 9 great-grandchildren, Madison, Megan, Jack, Kiera, Hannah,Owen, Philip, Evabelle, and Teagan.

Phil was known for his humour and loved for his gentle, quiet way.   He and Joan lived a full happy life,  with emphasis on family and many friends here in Ottawa and in Homosassa Springs, FL in the winter.  This was highlighted by many family dinners, backyard BBQs by the pool, trips to the St. Lawrence to meet up with the Davids in Cornwall or a week in Gores Landing with the Harris clan.  When in Florida, there was snowbird golf and happy hours. He sure loved his golf, still playing at age 90 and knew his way around a pool table, enjoying a nightly game with his buddies at the residence.

A very special thanks to our dear sister-in-law, Kathy David, for the many hours she spent with dad at the residence throughout the week over the years.  Dad loved and appreciated her devotion and companionship.  Also, a big thank you for the loving care he received from Cité Parkway Retirement Residence staff.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

Sue (daughter)

I couldn’t begin to recite all the funny things about my father that I will fondly remember. We got so much closer after mom died probably because every Sunday he came to our house or we picked him up when he got too old to drive. We enjoyed those Sunday dinners where we shared many laughs along with a bottle of red wine (probably makes more sense if you reverse the order of those two things! 😝 ). Dad, I’m so glad you are at peace now. As I write this it is Sunday so i will be thinking of you and all those lovely Sunday evenings we shared. 💕😘

Phil was so funny. I could never keep up with him on the dance floor. A great uncle and father.
