Mervyn (Merv) Dee Cameron, Cdr (Retired) Canadian Armed Forces
June 5, 1932 - November 19, 2020
Loving and beloved husband of Marion Isobel (née Phillips) for 67 years. He will be missed by his children Margaret (Peggy) Arlene (Tom Bryant), Diane Gail (François Tourigny), Robert Phillips (Kaoru Imai), and Donald Scott (Karen Pitcher); grandsons Thomas Kenta and
Christopher Yuta (Rob); granddaughters Morgan Danielle, Teagan Elizabeth and Gillian Paige (Don); sister Phyllis Arlene Paterson; and brother Harley Owen Cameron. Predeceased by parents Irma Lucerne (née Tutton) and Wilmore Nelson Cameron.
Merv grew up on a farm near Madison, Saskatchewan. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served as a career officer for over 30 years. He was passionate about all things Navy and enjoyed an active and varied career. He was stationed on the east coast, west coast and in Norfolk, Virginia, as well as in Ottawa. After retiring, he was involved with the Naval Association of Canada for many years and was editor of numerous volumes of “Salty Dips,” a collection of reminiscences by veterans of the Canadian Navy. He also enjoyed sailing, curling and genealogy. In 2014, he published “Cameron of Madison – An Anecdotal Genealogy.”
The family thanks the staff of The Colonel By Retirement Residence for keeping him safe from COVID-19.
The funeral at Canada’s National Military Cemetery, at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, will be by invitation only due to the current pandemic restrictions. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion or the Navy League of Canada would be appreciated.

My families send our heartfelt sympathy. Our cousin, Mervyn along with Marion visited so many of our families to keep up on our new members of our Grandparents John and Catherine Cameron. Mervyn’s dedication to his family, country and his Cameron roots was the makeup of the great gentleman he was.
Mervyn has certainly earned his ANGEL WINGS.
Thinking of you, Peggy, your mum and your siblings. It was lovely to read about your dads interesting life and get to know him a little. I know you will miss him terribly.
