Marylynn Florence Strong

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the peaceful passing of Marylynn Strong following a long battle with cancer. She will be deeply missed by her family, close friends, and neighbours. Marylynn’s strong, independent nature enabled her to accomplish many things in her life, most notably graduating from Osgoode Hall and having a successful legal career. She loved antique and classic cars, skiing, and was an avid supporter of the Ottawa Humane Society. Predeceased by her parents Rev. Dr. George and Rev. Florence Strong, she will be sadly missed by her siblings, Susan (Peter MacLaren), Karen (William Robbins), and Rev. Whitman (Rev. Christine Gross), nephews Logan MacLaren (Danielle Ziabek) and Matthew Robbins, and nieces Hanna (fiancé Sean Marrs) and Catie Strong. With grateful thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, Ottawa General 5 East, and the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice for their compassionate care. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa). Donations to the Ruddy-Shenkman Hospice Kanata or the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated.

We fondly remember Marylynn from the Antique Auto Club. She along with her 1957 Chevy Station Wagon were always ready to contribute to a charity event. We remember the times she came to take residents for a ride at Carleton Lodge. Our sincere condolences to Rev. Whit and Rev Christine and the family. Hers is a life gone way too soon. May she rest in peace.

My sincerest condolences at this sad time. I worked at the firm when Marylynn joined; she soon became a friend, and her door was always open to share her expertise or good conversation. After she retired it was always a happy surprise when she came to visit, popping into my office with a cheery “Hello Sue!” When I retired last year, she gave me a Maple sapling, remarking that I have plenty of land for another tree. The sapling is now starting to bud, and each spring when it comes to life, I will fondly think of Marylynn.

Please accept my condolences on the much too soon passing of Marylynn. We met way back in 1973 in Law 100 at Carleton and I found her to be a very pleasant young woman. We remained casual friends for a few years but then went our separate ways. I will always remember her long red hair and her lovely personality. RIP.
