Dorothy Moore (nee Pigeau) passed away peacefully at home, surrounded in love by her beloved husband of 67 years, Graham, and loving children Kristine (Ted) Roberts and Shawn (Adele) Moore.
Born in Callander, Ont. on December 5, 1931 to the late Lucy and Peter Pigeau, Dorothy was the youngest of 7 children: Mamie (Alec) Dufresne, Homer (Irene) Pigeau, Beatrice (Leo) Charette, Anita (Leo) Parisien, Violet Pigeau, Murray (Freida) Pigeau.
It was within this family and in her own married life that Dorothy developed a deep faith in God, a devoted love for family and friends, and a genuine caring for all those she met throughout her 88 years. This is the gift and legacy that she has passed onto her own children, her much loved grandchildren Elaine (Christopher) Dadswell, Jennifer (Devin Lacey) Moore, Anne-Marie (Josh) O’Dette, and Kathleen Roberts, and her great-grandchildren Hayley, Brianna, Liam, Charlotte, and Logan.
A lady of great spirit, humour, creativity, kindness and love, Dorothy always had a twinkle in her eyes and a beautiful smile to share. It is no wonder that she caught the eye of a handsome young man, Graham Moore! They were married in North Bay at the Pro –Cathedral in 1953. This marked the beginning of a great love story. Their commitment to each other and shared faith would see them through all of life’s joys, struggles, celebrations and hardships, side by side, always together.
Dorothy’s greatest loves were her family, faith, friendships, and bringing joy and comfort to others. Her hands were a symbol of that love and devotion. She loved to spend her time knitting and made many sweaters, special blankets, and dishcloths for family members. Dorothy enjoyed baking, and it was always a treat to sample the recipes she had made. Her hands held, rocked, and soothed many babies, including her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. It was those same hands which delighted guests when Dorothy sat down at the piano for an impromptu recital. Dorothy was always happy to participate in family talent shows which sparked laughter and joy from those in attendance. She had a way of bringing joy to others through her wonderful, creative and witty sense of humour! Family and friends fondly remember the many hours spent with Dorothy around the kitchen table enjoying a meal made with love or playing a favourite card game.
After graduating from North Bay Collegiate and Vocational School, Dorothy worked as a proficient secretary for a local insurance company, and later as a professional, personal secretary within National Defense in Ottawa.
God and her faith were the foundation of her life, woven into the fabric of all that she was and did. In youth, she was active in her church and Catholic Youth Organization, and as an adult, she enjoyed being a member of CWL, Cenacle of Mary, and her parish community.
The past decade was the most difficult part of Dorothy’s life journey, as she faced ongoing health issues. She maintained her strong faith and trust in God, and prayer was a special part of her life. The courage and acceptance to face her challenges was strengthened by the deep love and commitment she and Graham shared. Their love and soul connection was one of the greatest stories and blessings in Dorothy’s life.
Our family would like to thank the Champlain LIHN, ParaMed, VHA, and Care For Home Health Care Agencies which arranged Dorothy’s services. We are sincerely grateful to her Family Physician, Dr. Keith Lane, the Central Palliative Group, and all of Dorothy’s nurses, personal support workers, and therapists who provided such good care, support, and comfort. Your smiles and assistance will be forever remembered.
A private Funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday, June 13th at 1 pm, at Annunciation of the Lord Church, Ottawa. Family and friends are invited to stream and share in the Mass, provided a link is posted on the Church’s home page. In light of the current Covid situation, details for a Mass and Internment in North Bay will follow later.
