Margaret at the age of 85 died peacefully on the 15th of November 2020 in Ottawa, Ontario.  She was the daughter of her late parents, David and Hazel Gibson of Tonkin and Yorkton, Saskatchewan.  She leaves her loving husband of 63 years, Laurie Friesen, daughter Karen (Danny MacDonald), grandsons Andrew and Michael (great grandson Riley), daughter Diana (Gary Sonnichsen), grandsons Colin (Caroline), Derek and Brett and brother Bill (Merla).  Pre-deceased by brother Calvert and sisters Joanne, Donna and Betty.

Margaret grew up on their farm near Tonkin, Sask., graduated from high school in Yorkton, Sask. and was the youngest of four sisters who each received their RN from Saskatoon City Hospital.  She married her high school sweetheart Laurie Friesen in 1957 and then began a life of many moves as a wife of an Air Force pilot.

She was a devoted and much-loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.  Nineteen moves in thirty-seven years prevented her from working full time in her chosen profession.  She was too busy packing, unpacking and raising two wonderful daughters.

Margaret had a cheerful, outgoing personality, resulting in many friendships.  She enjoyed curling, golfing and playing bridge.  She especially enjoyed the bridge dinner parties with couples from the old air force days.

Unfortunately, Margaret was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease before reaching 70 years of age, which slowed her down.  To her credit, she didn’t complain and accepted her situation with grace.  She was a kind, compassionate and wonderful lady and will be missed by family and many friends.

Our family wishes to impart a heartfelt thanks to Personal Support Workers who cared for Margaret in her home, and to all the personnel at the Carleton Lodge for their loving and professional care of our loved one.

In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service.  Cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at the Beechwood Cemetery, 280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa, Ontario.

Thinking of you all at this difficult time. Wonderful memories of many good times together in Summerside. Such a graceful and caring lady, a role model for me and many others. So sorry for your loss.
