Gerald Campbell Butler sadly passed away in the early hours of June 18th in Ottawa, Ontario at the grand age of 97; all his children having had the opportunity to express their love and spend time by his bedside.
Wonderful brother to the late Hope. Beloved father to Rick, Gary, Michelle, Stephen, Tim, Lise, and Rob. Father-in-law to Mieke, Ann, Lilas, Gord, and Rick. Former husband of Suzanne Butler (née Plotkins). Blessed with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Will be missed by nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Proud Royal Canadian Navy veteran from the Second World War, seasoned businessman, and most of all a kind, gentle, and devoted father.
We will cherish so many precious memories in our hearts as we face the future without you Dear Dad. May all the angels and saints surround you with their light and love, and may Our Heavenly Father grant you eternal rest.
I give you this one thought to keep.
I am with you still. I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush.
I am the swift, uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone.
I am with you still in each new dawn.

I miss your my friend. We had such great talks on our phone calls every Monday. I will always have a hazel nut coffee in the mug you gave me. It was my honour and privilege to work for you and have such a great friend for many years. May God bless you XO
