Passed away peacefully with his family by his side, in Ottawa on Tuesday September 13, 2022, at the age of 90 years. He is predeceased by his cherished wife Nina, who passed away nine months ago on December 24. Edward is the beloved father of Gabriel Louli (Lydia), George Louli (Susan), Catherine Louli, and Josette Louli-Matheson (Rob). He was a wonderful grandfather to Philippe, Brigitte, Alexander, Emma, Jonas and Leo, and great grandfather of Olivier. He is survived by his brother Karam Louli. Predeceased by his brothers Charles, Joseph and Michel Louli. Son of Georges and Liza Louli.
Edward was a remarkable and beautiful human being. He was the family patriarch, a loving, generous and kind soul. He was a defender of public services and an advocate of international solidarity. In March 1966, Ed immigrated to Canada from Egypt. That courageous move across the globe provided the life altering gift of opportunity for his wife and four children. He was an accountant by training and over the years he worked in both the private and public sectors. He spent the largest part of his career working at the Canadian International Development Agency and Foreign Affairs. He practised what he believed, and one of those beliefs was to give back to the country that welcomed him so graciously. Whether he was overseas on a diplomatic posting, or attending a concert at his retirement home, Ed really liked to dance and music brought him great pleasure. He was always at the ready to take his lovely Nina for a spin on the dance floor. Edward's grandchildren and great grandchild were his beaming pride. He adored each and every one of them, and could not believe his good fortune in spending time with them.
There will be a funeral service held at Beechwood (280 Beechwood avenue, Ottawa) on Tuesday, September 20th, 2022 at 10 a.m. followed by a reception. Visitation will take place at 9:15.
The family would like to acknowledge the professional and compassionate care provided by the nurses at the Civic Hospital 2nd floor – your commitment to care is inspiring and we thank you.
