Bill Wielheesen

January 22, 1934 – June 26, 2021

After a long fulfilling life, Bill passed away at the age of 87 at the Ottawa Hospital – General Campus.

Born 22 January 1934 in Arnhem The Netherlands. He was predeceased by his parents and his 2 sisters Jopie and Sally.

Beloved husband of Hetty and loving father of Mike.  Dear brother of Annie and brother-in-law of Helly.  He will be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews from Canada, USA and The Netherlands.

In 1957, Bill immigrated to Canada to join his 3 sisters and their families. Bill had a long career in the Public Services (Stats Canada, Taxation, Global affairs).

Bill had a great sense of humour, a positive outlook on life and made friends easily.

He enjoyed swimming in Lake Heney, biking around Ottawa and skiing in the Gatineau Park, especially in his retirement.

A big thank you goes out to doctors and staff of the Hematology Department for their thoughtfulness and compassion in caring for Bill and to the dedicated staff at the Perley Day Program. They kept Bill entertained with a daily exercise program and many great Bingo Games during Covid-19.

A private service and a cremation has taken place. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.beechwoodottawa.ca

Oh how I will miss Uncle Billy! He was so kind, funny and loving. My boyfriend and I enjoyed some nice long walks together with Tante Hetty on our last visit, and he was happy. This must be such a difficult time. Sending big hugs to everyone who knew & loved Uncle Billy especially Tante Hetty and Mike..

Our sincere condolences to Hetty and Michael at this sad time. We always enjoyed our coffee shop chats with Bill. He will be remembered for his warmth and positive outlook and his many stories of growing up in the Netherlands and working in the Canadian public service. We will miss him.

My sincere condolences to Hetty and Mike. Bill was a gentleman and a scholar. I enjoyed our Kaffeeklatsch whenever we met up at the coffee shop. He was well versed in a lot of different subjects, so there never was a problem finding a topic to discuss. Best regards in these difficult times, Anna
