Jean-Yves Lamarre passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, near his home on Clayton Lake at the age of 68. Beloved husband of Diane Mallette, father of Catherine, Anna (Jonathan Joynt), and Luc (Kayla), stepfather of Krista Walsh (Chris Reddie), and doting grandfather to Caileigh, Keagan, Elizabeth and Eleanor. Predeceased by his parents Gérard and Isabelle (Sigmen) Ducharme of Shawinigan.

A life-long aviation enthusiast, Jean-Yves proudly served in the RCAF as an aerospace engineer for 28 years before turning his focus to the private sector and the federal public service. After multiple attempts at retirement he finally was able to  enjoy spending his time working on the cottage, boating, skidooing, and traveling.

Family and friends will miss his sense of humour, his willingness to help others, and his extensive collection of obsolete computer hardware. With the exception of his butterscotch sauce recipe, his cooking skills will sadly not be missed.

A graveside service in the National Military Cemetery will be held on Wednesday July 20, 2022 at 2 p.m. Followed by a reception in Borden & Fleming Suites from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to a charity of your choice.

I got to know Jean-Yves Lamarre quite well as a project manager on one of our aircraft mission systems projects. He was always of good spirit and willing and able to offer advice and immensely useful tips and anecdotes, drawing from his vast experience in similar projects where he had a leading or key role. He made sometimes dry concepts interesting and always had a well thought out solution or suggestion on how to get through the next step, get us out of the bind of the day, or just have an interesting hallway conversation on anything related to aircraft systems, procurement and contracting complexities, or whatever was on our mind that day. We missed him when he retired from our project and it is with great sadness that I learn of his passing.

Our hearts go out to Diane and all of the Lamarre family. Jean-Yve’s passing is a terrible loss for everyone who knew him, and he will be missed by his friends and neighbours on Clayton Lake. He was a willing volunteer up here and contributed so much to our community.
Our sincere sympathy to you all.

Worked for him at CMC Electronics, a time I enjoyed partly because of his experience and sense of humour. He will be missed

I have so many fond memories of Jean Yves and much to thank him for. He was a big part of my life for many years. I learned so much and looked up to him in many ways. But most of all, I just thoroughly enjoyed his company, with his big heart and irrepressible humour!

I had the privilege to work for Jean-Yves on the EDT Challenger project as well as CO-140 Aurora days. And he helped us out at the Flight Research Lab last year with a superb independent study on our helicopter flight research activities. He always amazed me with his passion for quality work and positive attitude in all that he did. He was a role model for the RCAF aerospace engineering community to follow, and was always available and eager to mentor those who followed in his footsteps. I was shocked to hear of his passing and pass along my deepest sympathy to his family at this most difficult time.

I liked Jean-Yves enormously. I met him for the first time a few years ago when my husband, Noel Rodrigue, introduced me to him, and his wife Diane, explaining that Jean-Yves was a childhood friend. What a delightful man he was! Smiling, welcoming, open and friendly, he became my friend as well in the years to come (as has Diane) and I am deeply saddened by his untimely loss.

Jean-Yves had spent time in my home town of Bristol, England and we spent several evenings discussing his experiences of my native country. I remember one time going to dinner at the cottage where he presented me with a bottle of Harvey's Bristol Cream, a Spanish sherry he knew I really liked. He was also a great support in helping me with work for a local charity, lending his experience and gravitas to some challenging situations.

More recently, Jean-Yves and Diane, and Noel and I, had attended several air shows together. Jean-Yves wore his knowledge and experience lightly but it was clear he had both in abundance.

In recent months, we visited him several times in hospital, sneaking in, at his request, a coffee from Tim Horton's and a small box of Timbits. He was unfailingly positive about his recovery and it was clear he was making very good progress, working hard at all his exercises, with Diane an unfailing source of support and encouragement.

I send my heartfelt condolences to Diane and all the family. May all the good memories sustain you in the difficult times ahead. He really was one in a million.

Jean-Eve had such an infectious smile and spread happiness to those around him. Rest in peace my friend.
