Passed peacefully in the early morning of September 25th, 2021.
Mother, daughter, sister, friend. An adventurous spirit with an eternally optimistic heart, Birgitta brought up her three children on two continents along with her beloved Göran, raising them with endless love, adventure, culture, and humour.
Birgitta loved nothing more than to laugh, to dance, to take long walks with her dog, to ride her horse Sophie, and of course to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
She leaves a legacy of nine wonderful grandchildren from Ottawa to Toronto to Colorado, as well as friends in every town and city in which she lived, from Stockholm to Toronto and Schomberg, from Surrey UK to Ottawa.
She will be forever missed by Göran, her loving husband of 51 years, her children Charlotte Magee, Tom Westin, and Louise Malhotra, and truly all who knew her.
Visitation will be at Beechwood in Ottawa on Friday, October 15, between 4 – 6pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to CARD, Community Association for Riders with Disabilities, an organization where Birgitta volunteered for several years, combining her love for riding with her love of people.
CARD's mission is to improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities through quality therapeutic riding programs: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/5764

I will miss you a lot Birgitta but you will always be in my mind thinking of all the discussions and fun we have had through our long and close friendship.

Dear Göran and Family,
Our deepest condolances. We will always treasure the memory of the beautiful and radiating Birgitta and remember our wonderful times together with our small children both in Montreal and London.
Hi Lou I never got the chance to meet your mom but I know how much family love is a value for you, and how closely you watched out for your mom in a constant unerring manner in the years since I have gotten to know you. May she Rest In Peace and have the joy of knowing what a loving legacy she leaves behind in the form of you, all her kids, and grandkids.
