Evan Kenneth Assadi passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2020 at the age of 15.

Evan was born on March 27, 2005 to Bahman Assadi and Katherine Rice at the Montfort hospital in Ottawa on a sunny, Easter Sunday morning. He attended Manor Park Public School and Immaculata High School. Evan was passionate about music, his friends, and loved spending time with his older brother, Deian, at the family's lakeside cottage.

Evan was an incredibly caring person who was always willing to help someone in need whether they be family, friends, or strangers. He had an infectious smile and a larger-than-life personality that filled any room. He had an amazing ability to make people laugh and the gift of making new friends wherever he went with his quick wit, charm and incredible warmth. His energy was endless, and his devotion to his family and friends, profound. He was a talented hip hop artist who had just started making a name for himself on the Ottawa scene.

Evan's memory will be forever cherished by his family in British Columbia: grandparents Vernon and Elaine Rice, his auntie Leah, uncle Glenn, cousins Colin and Emily (Allen family) from Kelowna; his uncle Ken Rice and uncle Behrouz Assadi and cousins Bijan and Olivia, along with his cousin Mozhgan Shakouri, husband Reza Varesteh, and children Rayan and Baran, from Vancouver, BC. His many cousins, aunts and uncles in Iran will also miss him dearly.

There is no service planned for Evan at this time. In lieu of flowers, the Assadi-Rice family encourages anyone who wishes to honour Evan's memory to do so by making a donation in Evan's name to the Ottawa Food Bank or to their favourite charity.

Bahman, Kathy and Deian,

Words can’t express how deeply sorry I am. Evan’s passing is devastating and my heart aches when I think of what you are all going through right now. Evan was such a beautiful, sweet and talented boy; that smile truly infectious. He will be missed by all those lucky enough to have known him, including us. Zak and Tama are equally heartbroken and want you to know they are thinking of you also. Please know we are here for you if or when you need or want us. In the meantime, we send you all our love and prayers. K, Z and T xxx

Dear Kathy, Bahman, and Deian,
We are so very sorry to learn this sad news. Evan was a wonderful person, and we have lovely memories of him from Manor Park School, playing in the neighbourhood and on the ice. You and Evan are in our thoughts and in our hearts.

Kathy I was in touch with one of your work colleagues and heard the news about your son. I remember so well our conversations about caring for family when we worked together. My kindest thoughts are with you Kathy and your family n your grief and loss. This past week my wife and I lost my mother-in-law who was our 'golden child'. We cared for together for the last four years in the apartment we build in our house (you may recall my efforts to get the place built). I have been meaning to write you , and this seemed the right time to offer you my fondest wishes as you find a way forward into your life going forward. Look forward to staying in touch.

Dear Bahman,
So sorry for your deep sorrow and loss. I still remember the times when we talked about our children at the office, you often spoke of your sons with such affection and love. Hard to imagine the pain that you, Kathy and Deian have been going through. Praying that God gives you comfort, peace and enough strength to face each day.
Winnie
