Peacefully and with great dignity and courage at home, with family at his side on September 10, 2021, in his 89th year, following a long battle with Multiple System Atrophy. Survived by his loving wife Daila, daughter Inta (Steven), daughter-in-law Sandra and grandchildren Ella, Benjamin, Anna and Oskar, all of whom loved him dearly and whom he dearly loved. Predeceased by son Peter and sisters Lilian and Rovena. Born in Latvia in 1932, Sig arrived in Canada in 1949. He served Canada with integrity across international borders as an officer in the 2nd Battalion of The Black Watch, in Germany, as a peacekeeper in Cyprus and India, and as military attaché in Australia. He volunteered for CESO facilitating Latvia’s entry to NATO. Active in the Latvian Church, he sang in choral groups Viesturs and Junda. Sincere thanks to Dr. S. Ramachandran for her compassionate care, and to all the nurses and PSWs for their professional support.

Sigurds, a man, a gentleman and a much respected Black Watch officer; and dedicated husband to Daila and father to their children. He was an admiral fellow who will be sorely missed but not forgotten.

My sincere condolences to Daila and family. I served with LCol Anderson during a 1970s posting with RSS Atlantic in Halifax, NS. He was always a favourite officer because he did not appear to hold it against me that I was a woman at a time when being an female soldier was considered a "burden". Rest in peace, Sir.

Sig was above all, the most wonderful and gentle soul. Along with Diala they were such gracious hosts, particularly to the young officers in Cyprus in the mid 1960s. Sig will be missed but not forgotten.

Both my dear husbands had the great pleasure to serve in Canada and abroad with both Sig and his lovely wife Daila. Sig was a very fine officer and a gentleman who will be missed by all who knew him. Our deep sympathy to his family.

My sincere condolences to Diala and his family. Only knew him during my short stint while in Germany but enjoyed his presence immensely. He taught me the finer skills of how to play ping pong, A Great Guy

Sig was a wonderful neighbor, mentor and friend to our family in so many ways over the years. Whether he was helping us with a home improvement project, helping shovel the driveway after a storm, or helping us get the cat out of a tree or off the fence (again!), Sig could be relied upon to lend a helping hand and share his knowledge. We will cherish our memories of the time spent together and the many stories of this travels and experiences.

Growing up next door to Sig and Daila, I always admired their loving and respectful relationship, especially the way they spoke to each other. I loved hearing Sig’s stories and about his experiences abroad, and was impressed with his dedication to physical activity and health, and of course his beautiful lawn (he taught me how to mow ours)! What a kind and gentle man who will be missed and not forgotten as many have said. Love and condolences to you Daila, the kids, and grandkids ?
