It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our father, at age 81 years, peacefully at home on August 15th, 2021 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Throughout his fight he always kept his sense of humour and tenacity that characterized him so well.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Côté (née Rousseau), whom he laughed with and teased until the end of his life, as well as his two daughters, Josée (Arthur McKenzie) and Martine (Michael Barnwell). He was also a devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Cassiopeia and Rayden Côté-Barnwell, whom he loved to play tricks to,
make them laugh, and to whom he enjoyed teaching “grandpa words”.

Son to Isidore Côté and Emma Côté (née Perreault), by whom he is predeceased. Loving brother of Sr. Viola (FMA), Rosalie (predeceased), Lauréanne, Jeannette, Régina, Robert (predeceased), Dianne, Zita, and Michel.

Born in Drummond, New Brunswick on November 8th, 1939 and raised in a farming family, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces at a young age of 21 and proudly served in the Regular Force for 24 years before retiring as a Master Warrant Officer in 1984. He then continued to serve our country as a civilian in the Department of National Defence for a further 15 years. He ended his 39 years of service in 1999 as Head of Security Installations, having received numerous commendations throughout his long career.

Dad, you have travelled and worked hard for so many years. It is now time for you to rest.

A quote from his favourite author, Robert Service:

“.....Lo! as I bent beneath the rod I raised my eyes....and there was God.”
from poem “The Quest”

Thinking of all of you at this sad time. My heart is heavy with sadness yet happy that I had him as my brother. I celebrate his life with all my happy memories.

Gerry was one of the great ones. I had the opportunity to work with him in the 90s. He always looked after his boys at CMU. He ensured he always had our back. He was a great man, a great leader and one hell of a good friend. I hope the good Lord can handle him and Al Boucher together again. RIP Gerry. You will be missed.
