It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick “Fred” Strauss on 25 April 2021. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Sharon. Cherished father to Amanda (Patrick). Loving grandfather to Caralyn and Everly. He is survived by his sisters Kathy Lynch (Jim) and Margaret Humphrey (Jim) and predeceased by his father Ervin and his mother Jean. Fred will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Fred had a distinguished career of 40 years between the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Department of National Defence. He happily made many friends during his long career who will greatly miss him.
An internment at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces will be held Friday June 4th, 2021 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
Due to government-imposed restrictions related to COVID-19, attendance will be restricted to a limited number of individuals, personally invited by the family.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Fred. We met and worked together as Privates in North Bay back in the 80s.We worked on the same crew. Fred was a very likeable person who was highly respected as an exceptional technician. Due to postings we lost track of each other for many years. We bumped into each other about 10 years ago in Ottawa. It was so good to see him again! Condolences to family, friends and loved ones. May you rest in peace my friend.

My condolences to the Family. I first knew Fred as my supervisor on the CF18's in 4Wg Cold Lake Alberta in the early 90s and later on here in the NCR. I fondly remember many "tow jobs" as part of his crew, heading out early winter mornings towing out CF18's in -40C weather, smile on his face somewhere under the cold weather parka but focused on the job and our safety, and then back in the warm crewroom, joking away with us all sharing a much enjoyed hot coffee. Fine example of leadership and camraderie that I still emulate today. I will miss him greatly and am sad to hear of his passing. Respectfully, Frederick Sherrington Val des Monts, QC.
