Written by Lynne Thompson & Jeff Thompson (mom and dad)

Today we write about mental health.

We are parents of one amazing child, but we were gifted with having two.  For those who don't know, we gave birth to a absolutely gorgeous girl who held our hearts in her hands. Later in life she came to us as a young adult and told us she had never been comfortable about her body and how he felt inside.

we made sure we had the best of the best therapists and doctors, who then gave us our very handsome, intelligent, beautiful son.

No matter what, our love was unconditional love and would always be there to keep him safe.

During these times of lockdown and social distancing it took a tole on his mental health and we missed the signs, or he just hid them that well.  Alex took himself on a walk not to return for us to hold again.

So, during these times, please in memory of Sarah Anne Thompson or Alexander Wayne Thompson our one and only child.  Speak up, get help.

Hold your loved one tighter and always say I love you no matter the event.

Due to the restrictions put in place by COVID-19, a private family gathering will be held at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services. A larger Celebration of Life will be held in Alexander's memory at a later date. For those who wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please do so towards the Kids Helpline, Ottawa.

Alex always had a smile on his face and was ready with a warm greeting. We spent many conversations just chatting about life's little things and insights. Our deepest condolences to his family and please know that he'll be missed.

I had the distinct pleasure of sitting alongside Alex on the Ottawa Police GLBT Liaison Committee. A passionate advocate for our community, his presence is a void that will not go unnoticed by our community. My heart goes out to you and your family, Alex. Much love and respect!

Dear Lynne and Jeff
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I knew Sarah as a wonderful curly haired little girl who stood tall and proud but never strayed very far from Mom or Dad. I was only just introduced to Alex recently but again a very striking personality. Hold tight to your memories for they are a true treasure.

Alex was a great coworker that became a mentored colleague and friend. He was funny, insightful and encouraged those who faced many difficulties. He accomplished so many things in his own groundbreaking way. I am saddened by the loss of such a great individual, and by the loss of his presence in communities working to make the world a better place for all. Till we meet again Alex.

Alex and I went to Algonquin together. He was a great class mate and we had many great conversations. We also worked together. While I now live in Nova Scotia I always kept an eye out for Alex's accomplishments. I was beyond sad to learn of this news. I too am an only child so I have some appreciation of how hard this must be. Take care. Alex touched my life in such a positive way so I felt the need to reach out.
