Born October 11, 1922, passed away October 3, 2020.  After 75 years of marriage, and being apart for almost a year, Mom and Dad are together again. Flying Officer, RCAF (Retired).  Purchasing Agent, Energy Mines and Resources (Retired). Jack, an Ottawa boy, was the son of John William (Bill) Holliday, Captain of the Ottawa Fire Department, and mother Alice Fryer, he had five sisters, Bessie, Reta, Nancy, Hope, all deceased and survivor Gwen. He was a graduate of Ottawa Technical High School and served during the war as a “bomb aimer” RCAF Bomber Command out of England. He worked after the war in the Public Service EMR as a purchasing agent.  He married Winifred Starrup, Christmas Eve, 1943.  They had five children, Heather, Christine (Don), John (Carol), Karen (Maurice) and Scott (Carol). They also had 7 Grandchildren Christine (Guy), Heidi, Kylie (Richard). David (Katie), Jon, Melissa, and Alex. Great Grandchildren are Troy, Nova, Michael, Isabella and Grayson. Jack wrote many articles for the Ottawa Field Naturalist Club and in his later years he enjoyed writing letters to relatives and friends. The articles for the OFNC are concerning his observations of natural subjects involving such topics as fishing, birds, insects and spiders. His love of nature was contagious and therefore all of his children learned to love it too. Few regrets, he was surprised to live to a ripe old age of 97, sorry that so many of the friends and relatives whom he loved passed before him.

Thank you to the staff at Colonel By Retirement Home for looking after Dad and keeping him safe and happy in his last days. Family and friends will attend a private gathering followed by the burial at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Ave.) on October 13th, 2020.

Thank you, John & Carol Holliday

I have just joined the Ottawa Field Naturalists and only learned now of Jack's passing. I have fond memories as a kid at Scattergood of hiking around the woods with Mr. Holliday and listening to all he had to offer. He was patient and kind. My condolences to the family.
