Ronald died at home, as he wished. He was the beloved and cherished husband to Dr. Eva Grunfeld; brother to Jeanette Browne (David); brother-in-law to Yaffa (Robert) and Louis (predeceased); caring and loving uncle to nieces and nephews Michelle, Kim (Jeff), Jeffery (Nancy), Kayla (Christine), and Aaron; and great uncle to Quinn, James and Lylah.
His family and many friends will miss his kindness, caring, quiet wit, and generosity. He approached everything with dignity, politeness, and panache (he was known to even wear a tie while fixing friends’ cars). He was always willing to help and was the ‘go to person’ for anything and everything anyone needed to know or to fix, always offered with modesty and consideration. A true renaissance man!
The family is indebted to the team at Princess Margaret Hospital for the excellent care Ron received: Drs. Aaron Hansen, Andrew Bayle, and Camilla Zimmerman. And, the thoughtful care from Dr. Ciara Whelan from the Temmy Latner Palliative Care Program and the palliative homecare team through the Toronto Central LHIN. Without the support of their services Ron’s wish to be at home till the end would not have been possible. In lieu of flowers donations in Ron’s memory can be made to the palliative care program at Princess Margaret Hospital or to Temmy Latner Palliative Care. A Memorial Service to celebrate Ron's life will be held on Friday, September 4, 2020 at 1 o'clock at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Ave., Ottawa). Please arrive by 12:30 p.m. to allow time to complete COVID screening prior to the service.

Warm greetings to Eva and Jeanette from Oxford and many remembrances of Ron when we were students at London Uni and on your visits to Oxford. We were thinking of you all today and hoping the funeral was very special. Sept 4th

The service was a lovely tribute to Ron. Eva, you were not only his hero in the last year, but also from the moment he met you. It was obvious to all how much he adored you. We loved hearing about Uncle Ronald from the nieces and nephews – Ron’s wonderful sense of humour and playfulness; his attentiveness to those who mattered to him (as Kim so aptly described as leaning in). And from friends and family the reminder of how he held the world to a higher standard, while remaining respectful and generous to all. Mark and I will miss Ron’s friendship, his quiet company and his wit. We will wear his ties with pride.
Thank-you for the invitation Eva. I will be attending virtually today. Ron was such a wonderful man. I am grateful for my memories with the two of you. Love and virtual hugs!
