Passed away peacefully on August 2nd, 2020 at the age of 86 surrounded by Maxine, beloved wife of 61 years, son Bob (Margot), and daughter Beverly. After an enforced separation of four months, this reunion was made possible by the compassion of Montfort Hospital and Elisabeth Bruyère Palliative Care. Wayne will be dearly missed by his grandson Daniel, daughter-in-law Margot, and his sister Joyce Cook (Henry d.) as well as nieces and nephews in his home province of Nova Scotia. He was predeceased by his brother Bertram (Sylvia) and sisters Ethel Kennedy (Harold) and Geraldine Stevens. Wayne was a proud member of the RCMP (1952-77) and of the RCMP Veterans’ Association. Following a second career at the Bank of Canada (1978-92), he enjoyed a wonderful period of retirement filled with curling, golf, gardening, and time spent with family. Wayne and Maxine also travelled together to many places before Lewy Body Dementia started a new chapter in their lives. In the last years of his life Wayne’s circle of friends widened to include many wonderful people—J.P., Manu, Abba, Urzsula, Cia, Amy, Mark, Jane, Virginia, Jose, and Emanuel to name a few—and we are grateful for their care. Wayne will be remembered with love and gratitude by his family for a life well and bravely lived. A private family interment will take place at Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, ON).  A memorial service will follow once COVID restrictions have been lifted. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Wayne to the Elisabeth Bruyère Foundation.

Maxine, I am so sorry to hear of Wayne’s fight with Lewy Body Dementia and his recent passing. He was a true gentleman in every respect. I enjoyed our long talks. Usually at the bus stop or while riding the bus when you lived in Beacon Hill North. Wayne could talk on any subject. That was a long time ago. I always felt good after talking or laughing with him. He made the world a nicer place.

I met Wayne as a fellow member of the Ottawa Division RCMP Veteran's. I immediately took a liking to him and found him to be such a kind person, easy to talk with and always with a ready smile. Thanks for your service, Wayne. All the best to your family at this difficult time.

“Boots” was my parents neighbour when we moved to Ottawa in 1967. He was a fine gentleman and a super neighbour. When I joined the RCMP in late 1968 I kept in touch with him in the ‘70s. My condolences to Maxine and his family. RIP Boots .....

Dear Maxine. So sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. Both Gerry and I always had fond memories of the rcmp veterans dances. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.
