It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dad, Ira Martin Saunders, 83 , on Monday, May 4, 2020 at Chapel Hill Retirement Residence after a lengthy battle with heart disease .
He is predeceased by his wife of 50 years Solange and his parents Ivor and Luell. Survived by his three daughters, Debbie (Jim), Christine (Greg) , and Jennifer (John) and his much loved grandchildren Danielle (Dimitri), Caitlin, Tyler and Jayden. Also, survived by his sister Marie, his brother Dean (Sadie), his sister in law, Dorene, and his sister in law Lauraine (Gilles), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dad was always willing to help out anyone in need (or not). He will be fondly remembered by many friends, neighbours and extended family.
We would like to thank all the people who have been involved with his heart care over the last few years, especially those at The Ottawa Heart Institute who gave us more time with him then we ever thought we would have.
Due to COVID precautions, there will not be a service. He will be cremated and interred at Beechwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute or The Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard would be appreciated.

I met Ira and Solange in Inuvik in the early 60's when I was just a kid. I believe he was in Telecomn's then, before he went off to Depot. I saw him at a Vets meetng in Ottawa a couple of years ago and reminisced a bit. Ira and Solange were well loved and respected by my family. Our heartfelt condolences.

Dear Jennifer, Chris, Debbie, I am so terribly sorry for your loss, especially during these difficult times. I didn't know your dad personally, but seeing how he was able to raise three strong, generous and no non-sense women like the three of you, it shows how big of a man he was. I am positive he will remain in your hearts forever because that's where he belongs.
With all my love and friendship, Isabelle.
