Joan Ronsyn passed away peacefully at Bruyère Palliative Care after a courageous eleven year battle with ovarian cancer. She was predeceased by her parents Rear Admiral Donald McClure and Elizabeth (Nee Betty Simms) and by her brother David.
She was the beloved wife of Ed Ronsyn, loving mother to daughters Kelly Finley (Derek Krahn), and Jill Gillissie (Troy Rogala) and by her cherished grandchildren; Samantha, Haley, Liam and Max. Joan will be greatly missed by her dear sisters Barbara (Gerry Stanton), Carol (Ray Woltman) and Tina (Paul Belanger). Also by her many nieces and nephews who will remember Joan with great fondness. She is survived by her first husband, Jim Gillissie.
Joan graduated from Notre Dame Convent and was trained as an xray technician at the Civic Hospital working full and part time for over four decades.
During retirement Joan and Ed enjoyed boating, traveling, hiking, annual trips to Florida, and above all, she loved the company of her family and friends. Despite cancer setbacks, Joan, nonetheless, was full of spirit- the glass was always half full! Her warm smile and easy laugh accompanied a cheerful, gentle nature that touched the hearts of all who knew her. A special thank you to all Joan’s friends for their love and support. She will be greatly missed!
Many thanks to the staff at the General Campus Oncology 7th Floor and Bruyère palliative care for the support and compassion provided to Joan. Also, to her decades long GP Dr. Mary Comerton. Joan will be interred at Beechwood Cemetery and a Celebration of Life for family and friends will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to CHEO (Where a wall plaque commemorates her dad, Donald McClure, a founder and fundraiser) and/or the Bruyère Foundation where the compassion and care was outstanding.

I will always remember Joan as one of my favourite people and so proud to have her as my cousin. As we lived at opposite ends of the country, we didn't get to see a lot of each other over the years, but managed to keep in touch with phone calls and cards. I feel so blessed that I was
able to see her last summer, enjoy catching up on the family news and sharing all our funny stories. She will be remember for her kindness, positive attitude and dedication to her friends
and family. God Bless you Joan and may you have peace always.
We will forever remember your smile and positive outlook on life. You are in our hearts and prayers always. Love from Nancy, Cal, Quinlin, Jave and Sajen
