Passed away December 23rd, 2019 at the age of 26. Born May 23rd, 1993, in Ottawa, Ontario Matthew served as an infantryman with the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa and later the 3rd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment, achieving the rank of Master Corporal.
Matt was known for his loyalty and dedication to his friends, comrades and family, qualities which were reflected in his service to his country. He was a devout husband, caring son, loving brother, and an admired soldier.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Sevgim, mother, Carol, father, Brian (Susan and Shaun), brother James, and sisters Morgain and Ann, his grandmother Josephine Pike, his in-laws Sibel and Ali Kiper and their daughter Nurdan, and his extended family, friends, and fellow soldiers.
Friends and family are invited to pay respects at the Hall of Colours of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood Ave. on Thursday February 20, 2020 after 12 noon. Memorial Service will be held in the Sacred Space at 2 p.m. followed by interment with military honours at the National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces at 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at Wounded Warriors Canada (www.woundedwarriors.ca CRA# 8208-2727-RR0001).
