Walter Arthur "Wally" Wright

Aunt Carmel, My thoughts are with you and the family at this difficult time. Adrian and I have wonderful memories of you both and your enthusiasm cheering Ryan and Victoria on at hockey tournaments which brought us to the Kanata area. Uncle Wally will always be remembered by us as such a kind and gentle man.

Carmel, my deepest sympathy for you and your family. His name brings back memories of his great smile and laughter, but also of how he showed us what a caring and loving husband he was.

Our condolences to the Wright family. We lived beside the Wright family in Moncton when Wally was in the RCAF. They were happy times and I have many fond memories of Wally and his family.

One day Wally sent a message from Puerto Rico to 415 Sqn Ops stating
First torp drop Maple String 70 unsuccessful as torp fell in 2 inches of water on runway.
He had a sense of humour

I remember Wally as a friendly, helpful, and very competent Squadron Ops officer at 415 Squadron in Summerside, but more so when he was VIP co-ordinator at CFB Ottawa Uplands. The turn-around time at Ottawa for a Boeing 707 trans-Atlantic flight from Trenton was very short, and invariably there would be VIP passengers, the greeting of which used up a lot of an aircraft commander’s flight preparation time, which was where Wally was a jewel. On my flights, I recall him greeting me at the air stairs, and while walking to the Terminal, he thoroughly briefed me on the VIP passengers, providing a completed form which he designed displaying the VIP details such that by glancing at it enroute to the VIP lounge I became well prepared to greet and brief the VIP’s. Furthermore, interacting with Wally wasn’t just a working relationship: it was a friendly visit, with the odd mention of an anecdote about good old Summerside, ending with his request that I convey greetings to my family. After I left the Air Force, I flew DC-8 freighters with Wally’s brother-in-law, Tim Murphy, who had nothing but good things to say about Wally, and I well remember what Tim once said because it was so out of the ordinary: he marvelled at the relationship between Wally and his sister, Carmel, citing that it was very rare and unusual that two people could be so in love. My sincerest condolences to Carmel, family, and friends for the loss of this wonderful man.

Permit me to join Wayne and the Murphy family in extending my heartfelt condolences on the passing of Uncle Wally. He was a kind and generous man whose legacy lives strong in your loving family. Big hug to you Aunt Carmel. Deepest sympathies from Kingston, Jamaica.

Dear Carmel and family.....I have such fond memories of you and Wally. Glen always loved to talk with Wally about everything, especially flying. Glen passed a year ago so I'm sure they are having a good talk. Take care and call when you can. Love Joan.
