Archdeacon Gerry Peddle was ordained a Priest of the Anglican Church of Canada in 1969. Now retired from active ministry, he has served parishes in Newfoundland and Labrador, Québec, Ontario and the Arctic. He has also served as a Chaplain to the Canadian Armed Forces. His final appointment, in the rank of Brigadier General, was as the Chaplain General at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa. Subsequently, for the next six years he provided specialist ministry to both National Defence and Veterans Affairs Canada. In total he has served more than 51 years in active ministry.
Throughout his ministry, he has also served as a school trustee (six times), community counsellor (twice), and a professional advisor to several levels and Departments of Government. He has served on a number of National Committees, including those of the Canadian Council of Churches and General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada. In retirement he now maintains one of his passions - that of travel by serving as an International Tour Guide, specializing in Battlefield Tours.
He was first appointed a member of The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation in 2002 and served during the early phases of creating the National Military Cemetery. He also served in various capacities during the construction phases of the new Beechwood National Memorial Centre, reception rooms, and The Hall of Colours. He was particularly involved in the inter-faith research and design of the Sacred Space.
