Margaret Elizabeth MacLeod, née Goodale

Died: September 3, 2019    Ottawa, Ontario

Survived by her loving husband Donald Norman MacLeod and the family she embraced and made her own: Norman, Amadeus and Amanda MacLeod, Austin Glabus MacLeod, Miriam, Naya, Reya and Hannah MacLeod Jamieson, Ian, Angela, Taylor and Hailey MacLeod, and a large and richly supportive extended family. Cherished sister of Marjorie Goodale Empey.

Predeceased by her parents William Goodale and Marjorie Jamieson Goodale and her stepdaughter Janet Ruth MacLeod.

Margaret was a woman of words. As a dedicated teacher she instilled in many children the discovery and use of all aspects of language. Throughout her life she surrounded herself with the riches of books, theatre and music. As an accomplished actress she touched audiences with the creativity and inspiration of the stage.

In the course of many years she coped bravely with ailments of the throat and other physical challenges, maintaining speech and her continuing achievements with the aid of medical technology and the constant help and encouragement of many capable and compassionate caregivers. 

She came to an increasing realization of the sources of faith and hope.

The ministers and congregation of Christ Church Bells Corners have offered prayers and guidance along this path.  The church will organize a memorial service and interment at a later date.  Family and friends may wish to make contributions to those in need in Margaret’s memory.

Though her voice was muted, in the beauty of her life she found the Word.
