Major (Ret'd) Robert Henry Frogley

Bob passed away in his 80th year, on August 28, 2019 surrounded by family, in Ottawa. Bob will be missed by his loving second wife, Kitty Jones of 35 years, and first wife of 17 years, Suzanne Agur Frogley. Beloved father of Michael (Maureen), Mark (Lauralyn), Katherine Kurtz (Craig), and dear stepfather to Elizabeth Baldwin-Jones and James Baldwin (Tara). Proud grandfather to Alexander, Stefanie, Erika, Alison, Macy, Jayvon, Devin and Thomas. Bob will be missed by his brothers Charles (Barbara), John (Sandra), Bruce, sisters-in-law Irene and Lois, as well as his many cousins, nieces and nephews.

 Bob graduated from the Royal Military College with a BEng Electrical Engineering in 1962. He rose to the rank of Squadron Leader (aka Major) before he retired from the military in 1975.  He then continued his career with the civil service, in the Department of Supply and Services. It was very rewarding and he retired as a full Director (EX) level.

 However, Bob was not only all about his career. He always had an open home and heart, time for a game of cards, would offer a helping hand, loved to go fishing or just spending time with others. Bob was the consummate all welcoming host, a man of integrity, and enjoying every moment of life, sharing his joy with everyone around him. 

 Bob was very active in Boy Scouts of Canada for many years, both as a Scout and then as a Cub Scout Leader. His leader name was Baloo, which fit his personality as a fun loving, laid back person. He loved sharing his love of camping and the outdoors with the new generations of kids.

 He was a dedicated fisherman and was part of the fishing group for 35 years. He even would bring along the younger generation of the family to teach them the ropes.  He loved planning his many fishing trips in Algonquin Park, down the Sand River and north of Wawa in the many lakes of Northern Ontario. He also enjoyed hunting every fall, with his cousins Henry and Dan in Bruce Mines.

Bob loved the cottage at Little Shea Lake, near Kazabazua Quebec. He built the cottage with Mike, Mark and Katy, as well as with help from many friends. It is a memorial to Bob and place full of laughter.

 He was an avid golfer, making sure his children learned to golf, golfing every Saturday while working, and then continuing to golf at least three times a week following his retirement.   He had a membership first at Pineview Golf Course, and then later on at Castleview Golf Course. His foursome has many happy memories both on the course and at the 19th hole.

He loved to travel, and had many adventures with his wife Kitty, spending their winters in Australia and making friendships around the world.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the palliative care team at The Governor’s Walk, especially his nurse Joanna, whose personal strength was a great comfort to him. As well, a special thank you to Dr. Thompson and her team of outstanding dedicated palliative doctors. 

Friends and Family are invited to visit Beechwood, Funeral, Cemetery, and Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue, on Monday, September 9th, 2019 from 10am until a Celebration of Bob’s Life in the Sacred Space at 11am. Interment in the National Military Cemetery of Beechwood to follow at 12noon. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations to Scouts Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

 Bob’s family have so many happy memories of fishing at the lake, playing cards and making pancakes with him.

 His family and many friends will remember Bob with so much love.
