In the early morning hours of July 6th at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa, Olive peacefully entered into the forever presence of her Lord. Olive is survived by and will forever be missed by her loving children, Carole (Larry), Russ (Patty), Sandra (Paul). She was the much adored grandmother (affectionately known as Nanny) to Amanda, Jessica, Joel, Matthew, Ryan. She was great-nanny to Alexis, Cameron, Dominic, Hannah, Jordynn, Xander. She also leaves nieces, nephews, and a circle of friends. Olive was predeceased by the love of her life Alexander, and will be laid to rest with him in the Field of Honour in Beechwood National Military Cemetery. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Jessie Clarke and was predeceased by her sister Millicent and her brothers Leslie and Howard. Just prior to Covid travel restrictions, at age 90, Olive was able to enjoy a trip back to her home province of Newfoundland to visit her Clarke relatives and to take part in a graveside memorial service to honour her father with a new military gravestone, Private Joseph Clarke, who bravely served with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment during WW1. Olive was known for her great sense of humour and her laughter, the sparkle in her blue eyes, her wonderful ability to tell a good story, her unwavering steadfast faith in God, her love of family, and her genuine generous spirit. She was an excellent bowler and kept active and competitive her entire life. She was happiest when surrounded by her family. She enjoyed gardening with her daughters and in her later years she discovered the joy of art classes and painting with her son. Many happy summers were spent camping and fishing, during the family military years and later on in retirement years at Circle Square Ranch. She loved to knit and was very generous with her beautiful creations. She knit numerous baby outfits and delighted in knitting socks and mittens for the homeless. Graveside service will be held on August 27th at 12:00 p.m. in Section 27 at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa. Officiated by Rev. Jeff Hillier. Due to government imposed restrictions related to Covid-19, attendance will be limited to those personally invited by the family. Masks and physical distancing guidelines will be in place. All invited guests are asked to gather by 11:45 a.m. in front of the Beechwood National Memorial Centre Office, 280 Beechwood Avenue in order to form a procession of cars to the graveside where Olive’s service will be held. Please remain in your car until we reach the graveside.

Guy and I wish you our heartfelt condolences. We will miss Olive very much. I so enjoyed driving her to church. She would always make sure she spoke to Guy as soon as we got there. We had fun shopping at Giant Tiger and spending time together having tea. I know how happy she must be now in the presence of God and reunited with Alex. God bless you and give you comfort now and in the days ahead.
