On Monday, June 28, 2021, Sam Fung, loving husband to the late Mary Ann Fung (nee Hum), proud and devoted father to Anthony and Samantha (Danny Wright) and doting grandfather to his precious Daniella, passed away peacefully at home, at age 73 with his family by his side.
Sam was born in 1948 in YenPing, China to the late Chung Yat Fung and late Sui Hou (Fong). He is the eldest of 7 children and survived by his brothers William (Betty), Eddie (Wendy), Tom (Helen), and sisters Sandra (Edward Lee), Susan (Andy Chui) and May (Tony Wong), brothers in-law Willie Hum and Ken Hum (Paul Beaudry). Sam will be fondly remembered by his nieces, Carolyne (Nathan Donahue) and Melissa (Isaac Ross) who he treated like his own, as well as many nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, cousins and friends.
Sam owned and successfully operated Yang Sheng Restaurant, a mainstay in the heart of Ottawa’s Chinatown for over 30 years. He had the most wonderful smile that made everyone around him smile. He will be greatly missed by all who were touched by his gentle and generous nature.

20220305 Because of Covid, I had been ordering only take-outs from Yang Sheng and did not find out abt the passing away of Sam until yesterday.
I remember him as a quiet, polite and hard working man who took care of business in a very meticulous manner. His contributions to Ottawa and the Chinese community will always be remembered.
My condolences to his family, loved ones and long time employees of the restaurant.
