Marian Pocock (nee Vance) BA, RCAF Lt, WW2, daughter of John and Ethel Vance; wife of Major, Reverend L.R. Pocock OMM, CD DD, BA, LTh (dec). Mother to Tom (Sharon), Chris (Helga), Steve (Penny) and Janey (Roger). Grandmother to John (dec), Elizabeth, Charles, Karin, Lindsay, Marc and Scott. Great Grandmother to Audrey, Madeline and Jacob.
Marian, Mum, Grandmum, Auntie M, Mrs. P, Mum P, Suse was beloved by a large family clan and friends around the world.
Marian was top honours student at Crofton House School, a UBC grad, one of the first 150 female officers in the RCAF , teacher, librarian, past governor of the International Soroptomists, past President of Brock House, recipient of Crofton House Lifetime Achievement award, recipient of Queen's Golden Jubilee medal, key sponsor of Kids Sing. Mum lived a life filled with passion and love and was a woman of marvellous insights and wisdom. Friday night debates around the kitchen table at 3811 are cherished memories.
Marian led a full life sharing her joy of life with family and friends for many long years. She worked outside the home before it was the thing to do, raised a very accomplished family, moved too many times (her words!!!) with Len, travelled to many parts of the world with the Soroptomists, spent many years in retirement volunteering, created a landing pad for all at 3811 and summer time fun and adventure at the PnQ at Eagan Lake.
Mum had a great run, 102 years and 8 months. She lived through some amazing parts of history - the Great Depression, WWII, other world conflicts, 9-11 and now the Covid Pandemic. We will miss her and there will be huge holes in our hearts, to be filled with memories. Raise a glass and toast Mum - to a life well lived.
Mum died quickly and peacefully at the age of 102 . Great GMum met her newest member of the family, Jake, on Friday night and then decided over the weekend the time had come. What a great way to end a wonderful life.
Mum will be laid to rest alongside "Pokey" in the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood in Ottawa.

I’ll always remember and cherish the twinkle in your eyes, your great sense of humour, and the Cariboo cabin afternoons with Deeds, where you guys would solve the world’s problems (over and over).

My fondest memory was from about 54 years ago at the Pocock house on Quesnel Drive - I was sharing a glass of sherry with my future mother-in-law. What a stimulating and enjoyable discussion we had, the precursor of many, many more.
