It is with profound sadness that the family of Joseph Maurice Belliveau announce his passing on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at the age of 79 years.  Joe will be forever loved and remembered by his devoted wife and best friend of 37 years Lee, his precious daughter Jackie (Pat Whalen) and his cherished grandchildren Lauren (Simon), Kevin (Nicole), Emily (Brian) and Soleil.  Joe will be fondly remembered by his brother Guy (Suzanne) and his brother-in-law Bruce Weese (Karen), his three nephews and numerous extended family and dear friends.  Joe is also survived by his son Daniel.

Joe was a proud Acadian from Belliveau Cove, Nova Scotia.  He was a kind and gentle man who never forgot his roots. As a young man, Joe started his career with CBC. He then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, as he was passionate about aviation. After leaving the air force, he enjoyed a long career with both Bell Canada and the Public Service of Canada. He made many friends during his career and was respected and admired by colleagues along the way.

Joe’s smile was infectious, and he had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to bring laughter to those around him. Joe was a talented athlete, and participated in many sports during his life, both as a participant, and as an official. He was very dedicated to fitness and stayed active until his final days. His faith was very important to him, as well. But his greatest joy was taking care of his family.  In his last weeks, he advice to us was to love each other, take care of each other and make the best of every day.

As per Joe’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A private funeral will be held on July 9th, 2021 followed by internment of his ashes at Beechwood Cemetery.

In memoriam donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, the Ottawa Food Bank or to a charity of choice.

Gone from our sight, never from our hearts.

"God looked around his garden,
And He found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this
Earth and saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you,
And lifted you to rest,
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,
He knew you were in pain,
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.

He saw that the road was getting
Rough and the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered"
“peace be thine”.

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.

Our deepest condolences to Lee and the family. I had the pleasure of working with Joe in 1986 onward off and on at Bell Canada. Different times our paths would cross at Bell related to a new project, etc. Joe had a lot of knowledge and was always helpful and willing to share information with myself and others. Joe will be greatly missed by many people.
