“An honest man here lies at rest,

As e’er God with His image blest:

The friend of man, the friend of truth;

The friend of age, and guide of youth:

Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,

Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:

If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;

If there is none, he made the best of this.”

Robbie Burns

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Millar; peacefully at home with family, at the age of 83.

Beloved husband of Dawn (Griffith - married in Winnipeg in 1961) and loving father of Bruce (Lucie Manoni) and Tanya (Andrew Zadow).  Cherished grandfather of Stéphanie, Justin (Nadia DiTrapani), Kayla and Benjamin and great-grandfather to Damian.  James is also remembered by his brother Ian (Sheila) in Scotland along with several cousins.

James was born in Sterling, Scotland and grew up in Glasgow.  He completed his National Service before coming to Canada in 1958 with the Royal Bank (Calgary). Shortly thereafter, he joined the Royal Canadian Airforce as a navigator and over his career, with family in tow, served in many different places; from Greenwood, N.S. and Summerside, P.E.I., to Sacramento, California, to the US Naval War College in Rhode Island and all the places in between, eventually retiring in Ottawa. With fondest memories of MP&EU and Maritime Command and all the friends made along the way.

Due to the ongoing Covid Pandemic, a private internment will take place at the Beechwood - National Military Cemetery on September 19, 2020.  For those wishing to honour James’s memory, heart felt donations would be gratefully received by Parkinson’s Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society.

During my time in Summerside I always remember the beer calls and interaction between MP EU geeks and 415 Superior Operational guys. If one wished to challenge Scotty on anything one had to take out their translation book to try and figure out what he was saying in that wonderful brogue. Fly west young man and track the may stars you were able to follow in your life.

Scottie and Dawn were our next door neighbors in quarters at Summerside during our tour at MPEU. We served together again when he came down to Patuxent River, MD for an exchange tour in VX-1. He was truly unforgettable. A consummate professional who also loved to party. A legend who will be sorely missed. Our deepest condolences to Dawn, Bruce and Tanya on his loss.

Dawn, Jeanne and I send our sincere condolences on Scottys passing. Enjoyed working with him on Squadron and MPEU, and of course our travelling together, playing golf and enjoying the odd brew. He was a friendly soul and a terrific worker. He will be fondly remembered.
