It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dad,  Ira Martin Saunders, 83 , on Monday, May 4, 2020  at Chapel Hill Retirement Residence after a lengthy battle with heart disease .

He is predeceased by his wife of 50 years Solange and his parents Ivor and Luell.  Survived by his three daughters, Debbie (Jim), Christine (Greg) , and Jennifer (John) and  his much loved grandchildren Danielle (Dimitri), Caitlin, Tyler and Jayden.  Also, survived by his sister Marie, his brother Dean (Sadie), his sister in law, Dorene, and his sister in law Lauraine (Gilles), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dad was always willing to help out anyone in need (or not).  He will be fondly remembered  by many friends, neighbours and extended family.

We would like to thank all the people who have been involved with his heart care over the last few years, especially those at The Ottawa Heart Institute who gave us more time with him then we ever thought we would have.

Due to COVID precautions, there will not be a service.  He will be cremated and interred at Beechwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute or The Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard would be appreciated.

I’ve only known Ira since he moved into Chapel Hill but I got to like him quite well because he was such an outgoing and genuinely nice guy. My sympathies to his family.

Hi Debbie, Chris, Jen,
I was very sad to hear this news. I will always remember your Mom and Dad's kindness and friendship and the good times we had hanging out on Eastvale Drive, especially at holiday time when all the family was home. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear brother in law,
It is hard to say goodbye but we won't let our personal sadness overcome the joy we feel to finally know you are painters. You have put up quite a fight, but God decided it was time to take you home. I am sure there is lots of construction and old cars for you to keep you busy. There is not many things you could not fix or at least try.... except for one... terrible barrista. Love you forever.

I remember seeing your dad walking with Christine and Tyler in the morning. You could also count on him to be at both the Robert Hopkins and Henry Larsen fun fairs. I hope your memories are a source of comfort during this difficult time.

Ira was one of my first RCMP acquaintances when I joined "P" Directorate as a C/M in 1974. His willing hand, "know-how" expertise, and cheerful personality contributed greatly to the working atmosphere in our small office unit on Belfast Road. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

We shared a table with Ira and Solange and Grant and Janet Macphee (fellow woodcarvers) at many of the “Old Fossils” evenings and we will never forget their love of life. Our condolences to the family.
