1920 - 2020
Florence Henderson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away in her 100th year at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, Ottawa on April 6, 2020. Florence, or Sis as she was known by family and friends, was born in Southside Boularderie, Cape Breton Island on August 31, 1920. She was predeceased by her son, Ross Henderson; her parents, Michael and Florence Gillis; her sisters, Margaret (Frank) Allison, Rhoda (Charles) Ellis, Sadie (Richard) Williams and Anne Portenier; and her brother Ernest Gillis. She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years John; her children Elaine, Sue ( Bill) Turner, and Mike (Jo-Anne, deceased); her granddaughters Paula, Tracy, Jennie, Kate, Beth and Marcela; and her great-grandchildren Carly, Lindsey, Brooke, Evan, Quinn, Emily, Anne, Isaiah, Rowan and Daniela; and her many nieces and nephews. Sis will be remembered for her love of her family, her smile and beautiful laugh, her kindness, thoughtfulness and the joy she brought to others. She enjoyed her many trips to the Boularderie family farm, the home of her heart, to spend time with her sisters and the community of her childhood and youth. Florence created a caring and loving home for her family and she will be cherished forever. A private interment will take place on April 14th, 2020 at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa and a Memorial Service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

We always enjoyed her visits while sitting on the deck with Sadie, Taffy, Elaine, Michael and I believe Sue and your dad made it as well. She was a wonderful lady and we always enjoyed her company. Sad news. Such a wonderful woman. Thanks to Sue for informing my mom in Toronto. Just spoke with mom and she talked at length about all the great times they spent together.
