It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Samy Demian (77). Sam died peacefully early Thursday morning, March 19th, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Amal Demian; his daughter Lidya Nasr; son-in-law Hany Nasr; grandchildren Joey and Danny Nasr; daughter Mariam Demian; and son Mina Demian. Samy was a loving father, husband and dedicated member of the Ottawa Coptic church community.

Sam grew up in Cairo, Egypt and was the youngest of four children. Sam spent his formative years travelling throughout Egypt and spending a lot of time with his family in the Coptic Church. Throughout his life, Sam was caring, hard-working, ambitious and dedicated. While he studied, his love for the Church and serving grew. He worked hard to get into the University of Cairo and graduated with a degree in commerce in 1968 and went on to receive a chartered accountant designation in 1969. After he received his professional designation, he found and married the love of his life, Amal, in 1971. Over the next few years, the couple began a family and travelled around the world. Sam gained international experience, working in both Libya and Egypt, while never forgetting to dedicate significant time towards the Church. Always a lifelong learner, in 1973, both Sam and Amal both earned a degree in theology. Though his career was rewarding, Sam set his sights on migrating to Canada to provide a better standard of living for himself and his kids.

After years of immigration applications, the Canadian government finally approved his request in 1989. So, with three kids in tow, Amal and Samy immediately sold their belongings and started a new journey in Ottawa, Canada.

While learning a brand-new language, culture and acclimatizing to a new environment, Sam continued to support his family and serve the Church. In Ottawa, Sam made a significant impact on the lives of children, youth and seniors as a dedicated Sunday School teacher, youth group leader and seniors group organizer. The impact he made in Ottawa will ripple in the community through his love over the years. Sam’s life can’t be measured by the length of years on earth, but by the depth of his considerable spirituality. He will always be loved and remembered by the numerous lives he touched.

He will be missed. Rest in peace.

Uncle Samy had such a kind heart. Rest in peace Uncle. May God comfort the hearts of his kind wife Tante Amal and his children Lydia, Mariam and Mina. I’m sorry these times don’t allow me to come pay my respects in person. May he intercede for us before the divine throne.

We are very blessed to know uncle Samy and his wife Amal. It was comforting to just see him and see our Lord’s grace shining from his face. Always full of love and wisdom. Jesus words never depart his mouth when you meet with him. He was a true living example of a faithful Christian. We love you so much please pray for us and our family infront of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Uncle Samy was so peaceful and kind. He was always such a great example to the youth of the church and so clearly loved his family so much. The thing I’ll always remember the most about him is when he would say “Hakuna Matata”.

We will miss you so much and always remember the impact you had on your community. Rest In Peace Uncle Samy.

Love,

Mima & Patrick
