Tanios Issa Saab, 82, of Al Haouch, Lebanon, passed away peacefully at the Laurier Manor in Ottawa, his final home, surrounded by the love of his family on April 10, 2020.

Tanios is survived by his wife Helwe of 55 years, his daughter Clémence (André) Estephan, his sons Chawki (Gabriela) Saab, Frank (Nina) Saab, his brother Eli Saab, his sisters Rosette Saab, Yvette Khoury and Jamilleh Elias, his grandchildren Amanda, Jean-Marc and Patrick Estephan, Camilla and Bruno Saab and Jordan and Alexa Saab, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Tanios was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend to everyone.

Tanios was raised in Lebanon where he proudly served in the Armed Forces until his retirement and move to Canada in the 70s. Tony, as his friends called him, started a new life and became a fine restaurateur, but was forced to give up his career due to his health. Tony loved to sing ghazal, the beautiful and touching Lebanese poetry and songs of love and lamentation which celebrate the life, marriage and death of loved ones. People would listen enraptured, in tears, to his voice and beautiful poetry, his sweet voice ascending to the skies. He spent his free time in prayer and meditation and always enjoyed his Sunday Lebanese newspaper. He was always ready to explain to you the world conflicts and his proposed approach for world peace. Tanios was always there to help his family, relatives and friends.

A special thank you to the people at Laurier Manor in Ottawa for their loving care and support during his final days. Also, the family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude towards the Al Haouch community, family and friends for their support.

Due to extraordinary circumstances created by Covid-19, funeral services, kindly offered by Father Henri Imad at Beechwood Cemetery, will be limited to Tanios’ wife and children. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tanios Saab may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at the following link.

Dear Tony, this ghazal is for you. Until we see each other again…

Bid me farewell, oh, bid me farewell

You will not see me again.

Bid me farewell in my own place

I will not come by this house anymore.

Bid me farewell in my house courtyard

Goodbye, oh compassionate wife.

Bid me farewell, oh relatives

The heart is filled with care about you.

We were not fortunate enough to have met Tanios, but looking at his beautiful picture I can tell he was a kind, delightful and compassionate man. I am sure he made a lot of wonderful memories that will live for ever in your minds. Our sincere condolences to the Saab family.
