It is with immense sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear brother Richard on Thursday January 30th, 2025, in his 70th year. Just as Richard had chosen the path he walked in life, he chose the manner of his passing - with dignity and on his own terms, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved life partner of the late Peter Beckingham. Dear brother of Elizabeth, John (Teresa), Mike (Patti), George (Kerry) and Kevin. Dear brother-in law of Suzanne Carroll. Loving uncle to Kyle, Brendan, Taylor, Ryan, Sean and Tara. Pre-deceased by his parents Robert (Bob) and Betty. Fondly remembered by many cousins and friends.
Richard was, in his heart, a Chef, perhaps following in the footsteps of his grandfather Magnus who was a master baker who also loved to cook. Richard gained experience working for a number of years at a local Ottawa pizzeria on Ogilvie Road, Cicero’s Pizza. Upon moving out west in the mid-70’s, he honed his culinary skills by studying at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, graduating in 1976. He then worked in a number of restaurants, hotels and resorts throughout Alberta, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. The highlight of his culinary career, while working in Yellowknife, NWT, was helping prepare a banquet, complete with an ice sculpture, for a future king, HRH Charles, Prince of Wales.
In accordance with Richard’s wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service. A private interment at Beechwood Cemetery will take place in the coming months. In memoriam, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ottawa Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
