Peacefully on January 29, 2025 surrounded by family at the age of 92. Predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Jozefa Krol. Will be deeply missed by daughters Julia “Lusia” (Claude Brisson) and Alice “Lila” (Cristian Ceamitru), and by son Andrew “Andrzej” (Stacey). Proud grandfather of Dustin (Julie Yeldon Jackson) and Benjamin Jackson, Cody, Parker and Shana Krol, and great grandfather of Nolan, Abigail and Aiden Jackson. Survived by nephew Edward Czyzewski of Winnipeg.
Mieczyslaw was born in Poland in 1932 and was deported to Siberia in 1940 with his family. His war time travels from Poland to his eventual arrival in England in 1948 took him through 30 present day countries. Mieczyslaw studied Mechanical Engineering in Portsmouth, England. In 1958, he decided to immigrate to Canada and settled in Winnipeg where he met and married Jozefa and where his three children were born. In 1966, Mieczyslaw moved his family to Ottawa for a job with the Federal Government. He retired from Environment Canada, Water Resources Branch in 1995. Mieczyslaw was an avid bridge player, had a keen interest in science, and loved spending time by the water. He took great delight in being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to a funeral mass which will be held at St. Hyacinth Church (201 Lebreton St. North, Ottawa), on Monday February 3 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at Beechwood National Memorial Centre (280 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa) at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
