Roger Stacey

Born on Feb 17, 1938 in Reading, England, to Harold and Avis Stacey.  He was the elder brother of Andrew (Valerie) of Glasgow, Scotland and Janine Hearn of Caen, France.  His childhood was spent mostly in Broadstairs, Kent. He attended the Chatham House Grammar School in Ramsgate, Kent before going to Nottingham University for his undergraduate and Masters degrees and finally to Durham University where he received a PHD in Geophysics.  He relocated to Ottawa in 1967 for a post-doctoral fellowship, and then started working as a geophysicist with the Federal Government.  He was married to Janet Rice from 1969 to 1988 and they had 2 children, Anthony Paul Stacey (Andrea Dorval) and Natasha Anne Stacey.  In 2004, his granddaughter Erin was born to Paul and Andrea, and in 2009 he met and became partnered with Marion Haunton.  Special mention to lifelong friend John Tribe with whom Rog has enjoyed many misspent adventures over the years. Aside from 5 years spent in St. Johns, Newfoundland he spent the rest of his life in Ottawa.

Rog was an avid biker and hiker and valued the many friendships that developed through his hiking and biking groups. Especially the notorious Ramblers. He was an enthusiastic bridge player who played by his own set of rules and still managed to win.  He was always up for an adventure whether that be travelling, organizing hiking/biking trips, wine tasting or dinner parties.  He loved to be with people (and dogs) and people (and dogs) loved to be with him.

He was kind, gentle, funny, and a wonderful friend, partner, grandfather and father. 

Roger passed away peacefully on November 10, 2019. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

No service will be held but an informal pub gathering will be held upstairs at the Royal Oak Pub (1 Beechwood Avenue, Ottawa, K1M 2H9) from 2:00pm – 5:00pm on Sunday, December 1st. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to make a donation to the developement and maintenance of the Trans Canada Trail.
