STAMISON, Rigby John

1928 - 2019
Passed away suddenly at home in Dunrobin, Ontario at the age of 91. He will be greatly missed by Sonja, Paul, Victoria and Georgia, as well as his grandson; Theodore, and great-grandchildren Fawn, Victoria, (little) Rigby Stamison, and Ethan Clow. He was predeceased by his parents Theodore Stamison and Mildred Howlett and his grandson Thomas Clow. Rigby had a Master's Degree from McGill University, Montreal. As an RCAF fighter pilot he was posted in Lahr, Germany and, with great joy, flew many times through the sound barrier while practicing over Europe. After his retirement from the Air Force he joined Transport Canada. Later in life he became an helicopter pilot and served Canada as an officer in the Air Reserve St. Hubert, Quebec. He was a proud member of the RCAF Officer's Mess, and of SPAADS the Sabre Pilot Association of the Air Division. He retired in the 90's , became a member of Britannia Yacht Club sailed the Ottawa River in his "Georgian 23" in summer and enjoyed his condo in Naples, Florida in winter. Friends and family are invited to gather at the Bechwood National Memorial Centre, 280 Beechwood ave. Ottawa, on Wednesday July 31st for a Memorial Service in the Sacred Space at 12 noon followed by interment at the National military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces and a reception.

A fine gentleman he was. With a love of aviation and an intense curiosity about many topics and a willingness to pass on knowledge to others. Long before transparencies and overhead projectors Rigby could be seen with large charts he had made and a smile on his face as he headed to a classroom at Centralia. May he rest in peace
A loving father but first and foremost, an amazing, highly skilled military pilot who loved flying every type of a/c he could get his hands on, the best flight instructor who taught me and passed to my mom, my brother and me the absolute passion that is flying, I would describe him as a "Renaissance military scholar". Him and his finely honed intelligence are sorely missed ..... love you, Dad.
