Written by Lynne Thompson & Jeff Thompson (mom and dad)

Today we write about mental health.

We are parents of one amazing child, but we were gifted with having two.  For those who don't know, we gave birth to a absolutely gorgeous girl who held our hearts in her hands. Later in life she came to us as a young adult and told us she had never been comfortable about her body and how he felt inside.

we made sure we had the best of the best therapists and doctors, who then gave us our very handsome, intelligent, beautiful son.

No matter what, our love was unconditional love and would always be there to keep him safe.

During these times of lockdown and social distancing it took a tole on his mental health and we missed the signs, or he just hid them that well.  Alex took himself on a walk not to return for us to hold again.

So, during these times, please in memory of Sarah Anne Thompson or Alexander Wayne Thompson our one and only child.  Speak up, get help.

Hold your loved one tighter and always say I love you no matter the event.

Due to the restrictions put in place by COVID-19, a private family gathering will be held at Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery and Cremation Services. A larger Celebration of Life will be held in Alexander's memory at a later date. For those who wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please do so towards the Kids Helpline, Ottawa.

My deepest condolences. I didn't know Alexander personally, but from work. He was always friendly to me and brought a smile to my face even on my own darkest days. It is beyond my comprehension that something else was going on for them too. As a parent of a child also suffering through mental health and self discovery, shining a light on these issues is so, so important. I'm beyond sorry for your loss, my heart goes out to all of you. And thank you for being a shining example of unconditional love.

I was one of Alex's teachers in high school. He never missed my class and always made sure everyone was respectful. He was a quiet leader who knew when to make his voice heard. I'm very glad our paths crossed. I spoke of him the week before he passed. I'm so very sorry for your (and our whole community's) loss.

I remember Alex well, and indeed for even just a few days/weeks as Sarah. He was an incredibly inspiring individual. He was quite new to our industry and so he tended to gravitate to those who could mentor his movement forward — always willing to learn and absorb. Given all of the challenges young Alex was presented with in life, I often found him to be quite bold in his pursuit of always wanting to do the ‘right thing’. As my co-worker, albeit a much younger associate, it is that which, none-the-less kept me inspired in my own times of (more elderly) episodes of cynicism at work. And so… I say… Thank you Alex… for being you.

My dearest and beloved Alex,

On Saturday September 11th family, friends and coworkers came together to celebrate you.

We shared an abundance of your favorite foods and drinks.

We shared stories of you from times passed combined with laughter in a commonplace where you would invite everyone to "chillax". I can report it's exactly what happened.

A gathering of people who loved you deeply and funny enough knew others either from work, sports or mutual friendships.

I knew you were here with us in spirit because once it was over winds subsided and the rain started.

I miss you everyday my love.

Love mom ❤

I am so so sorry. I had wondered why I didn't hear from Alex. I had tried reaching out but...I am shocked. Please accept my deepest condolences and profound sorrow at only seeing this now.

I didn't get to know Alex well, but through my mother, I got to meet him and talk to him a few times, I was also lucky enough to get some of the best hugs from him. The love that just radiated through Alex was all that it took to know his heart, and to know that he was such a beautiful soul.
Almost a year later, and just learning about his passing is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to his family. I hope you know that Alex was well loved and respected.
