Jean Yves was predeceased by his parents René and Gilberte (Oakes) Genet as well as his siblings Henri, Claude, Ghislaine and Monique.

Jean Yves is survived by his wife, Leonie (Gregoire) after almost 62 years of marriage.  Theirs was a partnership and love story that cannot be summarized because it is eternal. Father to Helene (Doug), Martine (Geoff) , Myriam (Tim), and Guy (Tracy). Best friend to his cousin Daniel (Nathalie). Cherished Grandfather to Jesseca, Joshua, Jacob, Courtney, Connor, Corey, Rory and Corinna.  Great Grandfather to Jaxyn and Isla. A beloved uncle, brother in law, and friend to many.

33 years in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Military Police took him to Quebec City, Bordon, Valcartier, Val D’Or, St. Bruno, Ottawa, Lahr and other stops in-between. He identified most proudly as a Peacekeeper with his United Nation tours in the Congo, Egypt, and Cyprus. Proud recipient of the Order of Military Merit.

After retirement he continued his life of service. As a school bus driver, and a volunteer for meals on wheels and driving seniors to their appointments. He was always generous with his time, never expecting anything in return.

He opened his home to everyone– always the gracious host, ready to pour you a glass of his favourite scotch.  He walked marathons and cross country skied into his late 70’s when Parkinson limited his mobility. He had a green thumb and could grow anything.  He had the most incredible garden plot in Blackburn Hamlet. Each row done with military precision, and you can bet not a weed to be found. Fishing was a passion as it connected him to his father and brothers.  He was an avid birdwatcher and could name any bird sight unseen by its call.  The Montreal Canadians remained his team despite his home address. He loved his wife’s cooking more than any other and could never say no to ice-cream.

He was loyal and fiercely loved his family.

He was all that and so much more.

Funeral arrangements will be made post-covid restrictions in his hometown of Labelle, Quebec.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at Centre d’accueil Champlain for their care and compassion.

If you wish to donate in his memory, the family suggests Parkinson Canada.
