Passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 6, 2021. She was born March 23,1922 in Ottawa, to Joseph and Ovina Clarilda (née Lafrance) Blais, the eldest daughter of eight children. She was the beloved wife of Walter (1920 -1994), and is survived by her sister Frances (David McKay, deceased) of Nova Scotia, her children Susan, Peter (Shirley Coghlan), Margaret Lee (Stephen Gallagher), Gaye (John Doran), and Robin (Fiona Boey), her 13 darling grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews.

Margaret was the matriarch of a large tight-knit family and had an impressive career as wife, mother, and grandmother. She described herself as “living to love”, and this ethos was a beacon her entire life. She and Wally always put family first, showing us all how love and kindness can ripple out to extended family and friends and on down through generations. She was funny, feisty, inclusive, never shy to voice an opinion, and was an accomplished homemaker with the highest standards. She loved a good chat, especially with a grandchild, novels with happy endings, and to garden, sew, knit and bake special treats. In retirement, she discovered she had a talent for painting, adding to her accomplishments.

She loved fiercely and we loved her right back and are so very sad to lose her.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Jessica Strike and Dr. Daniel Cameron and the staffs at Chartwell New Edinburgh and Laurier Manor for their help and support over the past several years.

Donations in Margaret’s memory to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada or to the Ottawa Food Bank would be appreciated.

My condolences to the entire Souchen family. Margaret was a real character and a very interesting person to talk to. Her obituary describes her well - a life well lived! I have fond memories of chats with Margaret at the house on Juliette during high school/university years and later at Margie Lee and Stephen's place. Margaret would give me updates on her grandchildren and children and you could see how important family was to her. Rest in peace dear Margaret.
