Loving and beloved husband of Elizabeth Ann (nee Paterson) for 65 years.  Loving and cherished father of Elizabeth Irene (Guy Quesnel) and Nova Lorraine, grandfather of Alexander Woodbury Barton (Jessica Anne Higgins) and great-grandfather of Jack Wesley Barton. Predeceased by parents Aileen Grace (nee Spurr) and Lloyd Gladstone Woodbury and siblings Lois Grace Spurr, Irene Spurr Hoar, Jen Augusta Johnson, Hollis Thorton Woodbury and Spurr Charles Woodbury.

Jack was a proud Nova Scotian, born and raised in the Annapolis Valley. He completed high school at Westglen High School in Edmonton and studied science at University of Alberta.   Jack was a career officer in the Royal Canadian Navy, serving from 1951 to 1975, including attendance at the NATO Defense College.   Jack had a second career at Transport Canada/Canadian Coast Guard until he retired in 1997.  He remained active with the Naval Officers Association of Canada for many years, receiving an award in recognition of exceptional service.

Jack developed many friendships, enjoyed entertaining with his wife Elizabeth, and enjoyed many golfing, hunting and fishing trips with groups of friends.  He was an avid golfer and had a strong bond with his long-time foursome friends Bob, Ed and Stan.  He was a multi-talented handy-man and woodworker who could build, rebuild, refinish or reupholster anything he put his hand to. He was unfailingly supportive of his family who celebrated countless special occasions at home, at the cottage and on the water.

Visitation, funeral and interment at National Military Cemetery, located at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa, will be by invitation due to the current pandemic restrictions.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Navy League of Canada/or Royal Canadian Sea Cadets would be welcomed.

Jack was one of my Cadet Training Officers when I joined the RCN in 1961. He was always there to teach and help others. In the 70s we met again while serving at NDHQ and he was still the same, a great friend and fellow NO. He served our country with distinction.
